Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) is another specie within STC's product base.  This specie is mainly located in the southern part of the Southeast Alaska region.  It is commonly used in the exterior home building business.  It is extremely light in weight relative to its size and has a natural oil which serves to protect it from natural decay.  Its wide array of beautiful colors appeal to the eye and its natural ordor serves as a repellent to both insects and moths.  Fencing products are a common product for this specie and exterior siding is also very popular.

STC's sorting allow various markets to access products designed to yield specific lumber products manufactured for different uses.  Each sort has specifications designed to meet certain requirements for optimal lumber output.  This is why STC emphasizes quality control as an essential component for producing products of high quality standards.

STC has 4 different sorts for Western Red Cedar.  Each sort has its own set of criteria, definitions, and sample pictures to illustrate each product.  To learn more, click on the product names to the left.
