Alaskan Yellow Cedar (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) is another specie within STC's product base.  This specie is located throughout the Southeast Alaska region but more prevalent in the mid-to-south region.  It is commonly used in the exterior home building business.  It is extremely light in weight relative to its size and has a natural oil which serves to protect it from natural decay.  It has a bright white to yellow color and has a strong natural ordor.  Decking/fencing products are a common product for this specie and exterior groundsill is also very popular.

STC's sorting allow various markets to access products designed to yield specific lumber products manufactured for different uses.  Each sort has specifications designed to meet certain requirements for optimal lumber output.  This is why STC emphasizes quality control as an essential component for producing products of high quality standards.

STC has 2 different sorts for Alaskan Yellow Cedar.  Each sort has its own set of criteria, definitions, and sample pictures to illustrate each product.  To learn more, click on the product names to the left.
